Remembering 9/11

At the 11th anniversary of 9/11, Berlin citizen and guests at the Brandenburg Gate remembered the victims. About 100 visitors came to share their memories and express their sympathy. 2977 candles, one for each victim, visualized the extend of the catastrophy on September 11, 2001. About fifty guests seized the opportunity to document their thoughts and feelings in a book of condolence which will be send to to the National September 11 Memorial in New York City. One third of the contributions are written in English, another third in German. Other entries are written in Persian, Italian, Spanish, Swiss German and Russian. YTI members Julia Barthel, Sebastian Kowalke, Maximilian Mayer and Christoph Rosenthal talked to Berlin citizen as well as tourists. They met a victim’s nephew, West Berlin citizen who remembered the Berlin air lift and representatives of German towns and religious groups. Our members highly appreciated the visit of representatives of the Embassy of the United States. At the same time, other YTI members participated in the ceremonies in Washington DC and New York City.
